Court’s Decision

The Rupandehi District Court has refused to grant bail to Rastriya Swatantra Party President and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane. Presiding Judge Narayan Sapkota’s bench dismissed his petition.

Lamichhane’s Argument

Lamichhane’s lawyers argued that he had already deposited a bank guarantee worth NPR 27.48 million in the names of three individuals, equivalent to the claimed damages in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case, and therefore should be released.

Case Background

On April 4, the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur ordered Lamichhane to be remanded in custody for trial in the cooperative fraud case. He has since been held at Bhairahawa prison.
